3.10 Ula Choedril Thangkha Monastery

In 14th century, Terton Dorji Lingpa visited Ula
Choedril Thangkha, located in the upper reaches of
the village of Ula, and had conferred a teaching to the
locality. While giving a teaching to the local devotees
he sat on a stone pulpit which he had crafted himself.
For certain period, the devotees and enthusiasts had
preserved the hallowed edifice till his heart
reincarnate Trulku Chogden Gonpo built a temple
near the pulpit in 15th century.

The temple was believed to be built in a single day by
the divinely emanated artisans, gods and demons; its earth and stones used for building
statues were brought from Lhasa in Tibet on a hundred horsebacks; and seats of the
statues were offered by the nagas of the lower direction.

                                                                     The monastery location was
                                                                    identified through a golden arrow

the temple, and while laying the

of water gushed forth and treasury of
precious things had been discovered. These were all good omens and built a temple at
Ula where there was the throne of Terton Dorji Lingpa.
The monastery has a large treasure bell (Choedril) and a corn (dungkhar) and the golden
arrows as the main relics inside.

The Ula Choedril Thangkha Monastery is directly linked to Terchen Dorji Lingpa having
it built by his incarnate Trulku Chogden Gonpo as an amazing legendry work that had
happened in 15th century. People revered it greatly for its significance and the monastery
is linked with Shaling Monastery as its summer residence both for the monastery lineage
               and the local community.

Ula Choedril Thangkha monastery also have a statue of Guru Dragpo (Wrathful form of
Guru Rinpoche), and every year Guru Drakpo Tordo Puja is performed for the benefit of
all. Guru Drakpo Tordo Puja is a powerful offering and performed to reduce obstacles due
to black magic, bad feelings and bad word and deeds from others and etc. which is quite
common in this century. In 2021, the special Guru Drakpo Tordo Puja was performed by
His Eminence Busa Trulku Khentrel Rinouche, as requested to be performed by the
foundation from 2021 yearly for the wellbeing of all as per age all mandatory ritual to be
performed by the community as per Dorji Lingpa ways.
