1.To undertake & encourage study and research into the state of elderly in Kerala, their needs and
problems, measures that may keep them healthy and active.
Ÿ Given internship for all most 35 social work students to study the project do research on the project
and present that for the betterment of the elderly in the district
Ÿ One PhD scholar in social work taken up the project for a partial study
Ÿ Two international students from united states of America had done there study with the project and
submitted their work for the improvement of knowledge Poole in the same area and also for the
development of the project
2.To educate and sensitize society, community and family about the roles and contribution of the elderly
and to motivate them in their care.
Ÿ Universal access / Age-friendly building and infrastructure / attitudes
a. No-step entry to all spaces
b. Non-slip / non-trip flooring
c. Adequate lighting and Appropriate signage
d. Spaces friendly for differently abled and physically challenged
e. Grab bars wherever needed
f. Bathrooms with wheelchair access, grab bars, good lighting and doors opening outwards
g. Awareness creation among students on being age-friendly and the relevance of human dignity.
h. A volunteer group to coordinate age-friendly activities
Ÿ Planting a tree as an icon for decades to come
A tree was planted on the day of inauguration of the project and it is existing as an icon of Age-friendly
initiative of the institution. The concept will grow as the tree grows over the years. Meetings and
discussions are held presently near the tree that witness the good deed while in later years, such small
meetings are now be symbolically held near the tree and in future in the shade of this tree. The tree
becomes a symbol and also a reminder for the students in the years to come for this great initiative. This
activity is contributing well to the long term goal of behavioral modification of younger generation towards
their older ones.
