FORWARD TO THE REPORT
his is the happiest movement for the Age-Friendly volunteers and initiators because this is the
time the project is completing its first year of implementation. This particular document is the
Treport on objective achievements of age friendly Ernakulam projects. Before going into the
details of the project report, it is important to understand that the Age-Friendly project in Ernakulam is
designed based on the “Theory of Change”.
Theory of Change is essentially a comprehensive description and illustration of how and why a desired
change is expected to happen in a particular context. It is focused in particular on mapping out or “filling
in” what has been described as the “missing middle” between what a program or change initiative does
(its activities or interventions) and how these lead to desired goals being achieved. It does this by first
identifying the desired long-term goals and then works back from these to identify all the conditions
(outcomes) that must be in place (and how these related to one another causally) for the goals to occur.
These are all mapped out in an Outcomes Framework.
The Outcomes Framework then provides the basis for identifying what type of activity or intervention will
lead to the outcomes identified as preconditions for achieving the long-term goal. Through this approach
the precise link between activities and the achievement of the long-term goals are more fully understood.
This leads to better planning, in that activities are linked to a detailed understanding of how change
actually happens. It also leads to better evaluation, as it is possible to measure progress towards the
achievement of longer-term goals that goes beyond the identification of program outputs.
Now we have understood that having a long-term vision in social work project with appropriate
systematic planning in achieving the desired goal is important. Age-Friendly projects are designed in this
way. The project report says about different project objectives within the Age-Friendly Ernakulam project
which are specifically planned to achieve the next object, so that the sequencing of final outcome is made
according to the objectives and according to the plans. In this way, achieving the final outcomes is
become more easy and measurable. Throughout this report one can find the level of achievement of
different objectives which are planned. The same time, some of the objectives are yet to be met, which
will be happening in the coming years. Major portion of the project objectives are met within this one year
and only minor part of the project objective is pending. So someone who is interested in understanding
and analyzing this project have to keep all these aspects in the mind for a better understanding of the
project and report of Age-Friendly Ernakulam project report.
