“Yep,” says Jaxon. He pauses, then says, “You know…a Black man named Lewis Latimer
invented something that makes the light bulb stay on.” He watches his dad carefully.
His dad looks up at the ceiling and then back at Jaxon and says, “Yeah. Yeah, I know that.
Hmmm, I don’t remember how. But that’s cool. Okay, get your gear and I’ll meet you in the car.”
Jaxon rushes upstairs to his room to get his gear. He is relieved to see that his stuff is back
and even better, the sneakers are gone. Thank goodness!
He checks the bathroom, and the hair stuff is back in place. He sprints back down the stairs
two at a time.
“See you guys later,” his mom yells from the top of the stairs. She winks at Jaxon and waves.
“See you later, Mom.” He grins and waves back.
“I’m coming, Dad. I have my glove and bat!”
As Jaxon closes the door, he thinks, What a cool day this has been. Can’t imagine how I’ll top
this next time.
