o  Pick a character from a story and draw a portrait of them. Around the portrait write words
                       or phrases to describe them (verbs, adverbs, adjectives, nouns)

               Summer Term

               Word Level Work
                   o  Hangman with spellings.
                   o  Identify as many words as possible with the endings ful and ly using signs, books, own
                       knowledge, create a friendship soup.

               Sentence Level Work
                   o  Write questions about a topic using When, Where, What, How, Who.
                   o  Brainstorm different types of questions they could ask e.g. time? Day?
                       Search through selection of books to find questions.

               Text Level Work
                   o  Read and compare a selection of books by the same author – e.g. Anthony Browne. What is
                       the same? What is different? Complete a table/list to show the difference.
                   o  Write about an author – their name, alive or dead? Publisher? Identifying where they found
                       this information.
                   o  Read and compare two similar books from two different authors and identify the
                       differences to feed back to the class.
                   o  Write tongue twisters – own or from books – to make a class poetry book.
                       Give a verbal book review on a book they have read.
                   o  Describe a character/scene/setting from a story they would write.

                       SCIENCE

                   o  How many jumps can their partner do in one minute? Estimate, time and record.
                   o  Floating and sinking: selection of items available – what will float? What will sink? Why
                       do you think that? Complete activity and record results and why they are different/right.
       Star fillers   o  Plan and carry out investigation into shoe size/hand span, recording results on a graph.
                   o  Discuss what is alive and what is dead. Students draw items to show each and label with
                       key words/sentences to explain why dead/alive.
                   o  Draw the life cycle of a butterfly/frog/plant labelling key parts.
                   o  In groups draw round one member of the group and then all label/draw body parts.
                   o  Discuss being healthy chn to create a poster showing exercises/healthy food.
                   o  How can we stay clean? Students to draw a poster to remind others to wash hands after
                       going to the toilet, before eating, after playing outside, brush teeth twice a day etc.
                   o  Create a leaflet explaining how to look after a seed to make sure it grows into a healthy
                       plant.
                   o  Identify different sources of light in the classroom?
