Reception





                        LITERACY

               Word Level Work
                   o  Recap on sounds already learnt.
                   o  Ask students to tell you sounds they know.
                   o  Discuss/sing/act out favourite nursery rhymes/songs.
                   o  Think of words that rhyme with others e.g. cat, hop.
      Star fillers   o  Practice writing CVC words through sounding them out.

               Sentence Level Work
                   o  Write names with and without capital letters and ask which is right.
                   o  Read a sentence and miss a word out. Ask the group if it makes sense and why.

               Text Level Work
                   o  Discuss where they may find words.
                   o  Write a group sentence about a topic.
                   o  Write a menu/shopping list/letter as a group checking it makes sense.
                   o  Discuss features of a book e.g. title, front cover, back cover, blurb.
                   o  Practice letter formation.



                       MATHS

               Numbers
                   o  Practice counting to 20.
                   o  Give students a number and ask them what is 2 more/less than it.
                   o  Halving – using objects give students an even number of the object ask them to share
                       them out between two.
      Star fillers   o  Investigate which numbers can be halved using items to help.
                   o  Doubling – use objects to find out what the double of a number is.

               Shape and Space
                   o  Have selection of items for the group to describe using terms such as bigger than, smaller
                       than.
                   o  Identify coins and discuss shape, colour and size of them.
                   o  Draw around coins/Coin rubbing and labelling.
                   o  Use a clock to talk about time – hours, yesterday, today, tomorrow - Students draw own
                       clocks.
                   o  Students draw a timeline of their daily activities and label with time and activity.
                   o  Look for patterns in the classroom - Use three different colours to create patterns.
                   o  Organise objects into weights – heaviest to lightest.
