November 2018
Dear Sorors:
As we enter into the Holidays, I wish all of you peace and many blessings and all that you desire. As I reflect back over my time as Basileus, I would like
to say again the words I gave in my campaign speech on November 17, 2018 at the Power Center. I said the following words: "Two years ago, on
election day November 2016, I promised you Transparency, Inclusiveness and True Sisterliness. Check, Done. Promises Made, Promises Honored. My
Works speak for me."
"Transparency: When I receive information, you receive information. What I know, you know. Questions asked, questions answered. Hundreds of
eblasts distributed to you for your information. Knowledge is power! Executive Committee Meetings opened to everyone."
"Inclusiveness: 364 appointments made for Committee Chairmen and Co-Chairmen for more opportunities to lead, create, be involved. Many new
committees created to increase the odds of your finding committees that are of special interest to you, and speak your name. The creation of an Ideas
Committee to receive your new ideas, thoughts, best practices and process improvement procedures from you. The concept of It's Time For Crucial
Conversation designed for you to provide concerns to the Members-At-Large-Large to be addressed, reviewed and resolved "
"True Sisterliness: I am passionate about uplifting and supporting our chapter members, such as reduced our chapter dues for 2018, developed a
special service project for own chapter members affected by Hurricane Harvey, provided MIP refunds, created the Silver "Joy of AKA" committees for
relationship and team building and the Purple "Healing Through AKA" Committees for refreshing the heart, mind spirit and body, chaired by licensed
professional chapter members in these subject areas and the Gold Infrastructure Operations "Wind Beneath Our AKA Wings Committees" for
enhancing and elevating chapter operations."
"Sorors, we have provided great External service to the community, as well as great Internal Service to each other within the chapter, including the
creation of six new officer positions and 30 new Bylaws for more efficient chapter operations. Don't jump ship now, into un-chartered territories,
unknown waters, where you might need a life jacket! Stay the course with me, the proven course, because the best is yet to be! Such as: 1. Reducing
chapter dues even further, 2. It's time for our chapter's money to begin making its own money for us to have more money for our service projects,
events, initiatives and where budgeting will become a breeze, 3. Developing long-term partners with us for the long haul and where we do not have to
start over with each new project/event searching for a partner, which can be a challenge, 4. Creation of a Signature Chapter Service Project,
sustainable through the years and to become known world-wide, 5. Utilizing Electronic Voting Machines, 6. Creation of a Chapter app, and 7. Much
More!”
"Sorors, don't fire me for a job well-done! Rehire me for continued excellence to come! I know that you and the mic can agree my record speaks for
me." (Drop the mic).
In conclusion, as 2018-year end approaches, please join us for our culminating gala celebrating 90 years of Service and Sisterhood in the Greater
Houston Area! We are Alpha Kappa Omega Strong, the largest chapter in the sorority!
Sisterly,
Soror Marsha Penn, Basileus
A Presidential Administration of Transparency, Inclusiveness and True Sisterliness
