Your First Chord What is a chord?
A chord is simply three or
E Major more notes that are played

                                                                            together at the same time.

The first chord that you will learn to play is the E major. Notice that in written form it is usually
notated simply as E. Along with being a very popular chord, the E is one of the easier chords to
          learn,
          Lets get started!

First, you need to setup your guitar by placing the FretBands labeled 1A, 2A and 3A on your fret-
board to look exactly like what you see in the diagram below. Remember, lying your guitar on your
lap faced up will simulate the same view of your guitar as to what you are looking at in the dia-
          gram.

                                                        G
                        F
                        C D
                        G # A
                                         E F
                                         B C

                        F G

To form an E chord you will place your fingers onto the red FretBand labels.

          1. Place your second finger (middle) on the second fret of the A string. You’re on the fifth string,
second fret. This note is a B.

          2. Place your ring finger down on the second
fret of the D string. This is the second fret,
fourth string. This note is a E.

          3. Place your index (pointer) finger on the first
fret of the G string. This is the first fret, third
string. This note is a G#.

          4. Strum all six strings simultaneously.

          5. From top to bottom, pick each string individ-
ually while listening for any problems.
