Tuning the Guitar
You will begin tuning your guitar by starting with the Low E string. Pluck the string with
your pick and allow your tuning device to give a reading of the pitch. Then turn the tuning peg
attached to that string to tighten or loosen the string. Tightening the string will raise the pitch and
loosening the string will lower it. Repeat this process with each ascending string until you have
achieved a perfect pitch on each string. Sometimes the strings will change pitch a little as you tune
the other strings. This makes it necessary to check the tuning again after you finish the first time
and make adjustments as necessary. Whichever method you choose, it is vital that you acquire a
tuner. You will be unable to proceed with any lessons if you cannot place your guitar in standard
tuning.
*Remember to look at your FretBand labels to know exactly what note you are tuning to while using your
electronic tuner.
