Bachman
Weave the Klemheist around a carabiner, and you get the Bachman. Before I had Jumars (mechanical
ascenders), this was my favorite knot for climbing fixed ropes. It slides up the rope with less effort
than the Klemheist and is much easier to loosen. Don't, however, mistake the carabiner for a handle;
grab the carabiner, either by accident or on purpose, and the knot will slide down the rope. As with
the Klemheist, don't use the Bachman to cross a traversing rope. The Bachman is the best ascending
knot for double ropes. For best performance, place the carabiner between the two lines.
