SAC Queendown 3.3 km south Qualifies under the Habitats Directive for supporting Annex
Warren I habitat semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on
calcareous substrates (Festuco-Brometalia) - important orchid
site. It contains an important assemblage of rare and scarce
species, including early spider-orchid (Ophrys sphegodes),
burnt orchid (Orchis ustulata) and man orchid (Aceras
anthropophorum) (JNCC, 2015a).
7.2 The qualifying features associated with Queendown Warren SAC are unlikely to be found within the
Site. In addition, given the distance between the sites, it is unlikely that the proposed development
will impact the SAC either directly or indirectly. Therefore, no further survey work or mitigation is
proposed.

7.3 There are no statutory sites of national importance within 2km of the Site.

7.4 There is one Local Wildlife Sites (LWS) located within 1km of the site.
7.5 Hawes and Wardwell Woods LWS lies 0.9 km north of the site boundary.
Ancient Woodland
7.6 There is one ancient woodland within 1km of the site boundary. Hawes and Wardwell ancient
woodland lies approximately 0.9km to the north. The Site and the ancient woodland are separated
by Newington High Street.
HABITATS WITHIN THE SITE
7.7 Table 4, below describes the habitats present within the Site in accordance with UK Habitat
Classification.
7.8 There are no buildings or structures present within the Site.
