PROTECTED AND NOTABLE SPECIES
Bats
Trees
7.13 No potential roost features were recorded within the mature oak located on the eastern boundary.
7.14 A single feature, comprising a helical split in an overhanging limb of a mature oak tree adjacent to the
eastern boundary, was inspected using ladder and endoscope on 11th June 2020. This feature was
found to provide negligible suitability for roosting bats, as it did not extend into the tree.
7.15 A small number of cherry trees within the south-eastern corner of the Site have a number of
woodpecker holes that provide potential roost features for bats.
Foraging and commuting habitat
7.16 Habitats within the site, including open grassland and dense scrub along the western boundary offer
suitable foraging habitat for bats. The dense scrub also offers suitable commuting habitat for bats
within the locality, providing good connectivity to the wider surrounding habitat.
Hazel dormouse
7.17 The dense blackthorn and bramble scrub along the western boundary offers some habitat potential for
dormice. However, there is limited habitat connectivity between the Site and the wider surrounding
area, including a lack of significant areas of connected suitable woodland.
7.18 Given the small area of habitat present within the Site and limited connectivity to significant parcels
of woodland within the wider surrounding area, dormice are unlikely to be present within the Site. No
further survey work or mitigation is recommended.
Otter
7.19 There is no habitat suitable for otter within, or in close proximity the site. No further survey work or
mitigation is required for otter.
Badger
7.20 During the survey, no signs of badger were present within the Site and no badger setts were recorded
within the accessible 30m of the Site boundary. Given its location within a semi-rural area, badger
may enter the Site on occasion whilst foraging.
Water vole
7.21 There is no habitat suitable for water vole within, or in close proximity to the site. No further survey
work or mitigation is required for water vole.
