9.10 Precautionary mitigation to minimise the risk of harming individual badgers during construction works
is detailed in Section 11.
Hedgehog
9.11 Development proposals are unlikely to impact on local hedgehog populations and therefore no further
survey work is required. However, in the absence of suitable mitigation, individual hedgehogs may be
harmed during works.
9.12 Precautionary mitigation to reduce the risk of killing or injuring individual hedgehogs is detailed within
Section 11.
Nesting birds
9.13 The boundary dense scrub and potential open, tussocky areas of grassland provide suitable nesting
habitat for both common and widespread bird species as well as those included on Red and Amber
lists within the Birds of Conservation Concern.
9.14 Given the lack of potentially high quality nesting habitat within the Site and presence of significant
areas of nesting habitat within the wider surrounding area, it is unlikely that development proposals
will impact bird populations within the locality.
9.15 No further survey work for nesting birds is recommended.
9.16 Mitigation measures to avoid impacts to nesting birds through the retention and enhancement of
suitable nesting habitat as well as through timing of works are outlined within Section 11.
Reptiles
9.17 A small population of common lizard is present within the Site, mainly associated with the short
section of bund within the north-western corner. Mitigation measures are detailed within Section 10
to avoid the killing or injury of reptiles during construction works and to retain and manage suitable
reptile habitat within the Site.
