5 Trip Generation, Distribution and Transport
Impacts
5.1 Overview
5.1.1 This section outlines the methodology employed to calculate the likely vehicle trip
generation as a result of the proposed development. Given that the existing site
comprises of an open field, there is assumed to be no existing vehicle trip
attraction.
5.1.2 Due to the relatively modest scale of the proposed development, which does not
require off-site capacity assessment, it is not necessary to consider the cumulative
impact relative to the Eden Meadows scheme. Notwithstanding this, it is noted
that the vehicular trip generation of Eden Meadows is very modest (circa 4 to 5
vehicular movements in the peak hours).
5.2 Proposed Development Vehicle Trip Generation
5.2.1 The vehicle trip generation of the proposed development has been ascertained
from the national TRICS trip rate database. To provide the most representative
assessment of the proposed scheme, the rates have been divided based on
privately owned and affordable houses. Only areas outside of London, in England,
Scotland and Wales, have been considered with dwelling numbers between 5 and
100 in Edge of Town locations to provide a sufficiently large dataset. Weekday
periods were assessed to provide a robust consideration of the peak periods. A
summary of the TRICS trip rates are provided below in Table 5-1 and Table 5-2.
5.2.2 The full TRICS report for this assessment is included at Appendix E.
Period Arrivals Departures Total
AM Peak (0800-0900) 0.130 0.372 0.502
PM Peak (1700-1800) 0.346 0.133 0.479
Daily (0700-1900) 2.351 2.332 4.683
Table 5-1: TRICS Trip Rates – Houses Privately Owned (trips/dwelling)
Period Arrivals Departures Total
AM Peak (0800-0900) 0.155 0.296 0.451
PM Peak (1700-1800) 0.258 0.186 0.444
Daily (0700-1900) 2.218 2.213 4.431

5.2.3 These trips have been factored against the total number of dwellings proposed for
the site by tenure as shown in Table 5-3 to Table 5-5 overleaf.
