5.2.4 It is noted that a total of 160 two-way trips would be expected from the proposed
development during the 12-hour weekday period. Of these, 17 are expected to
take place in the AM peak hour and 16 in the PM peak hour. Overall, this would
equate to approximately 13 movements per hour across the 12-hour day, or
approximately three movements every 15 minutes, which is not considered to
represent a significant or ‘severe’ highway impact in accordance with Paragraph
109 of the NPPF.
5.3 Trip Distribution
5.3.1 An assessment of likely trip distribution has been undertaken using Census 2011
‘Location of usual residence and place of work by method of travel to work
WU03EW” data. Utilising ‘Home Origin’ for the proposal site (which is located
within the Swale 008 Middle-Layer Super Output Area) and the Google Real-Time
Journey Planner, it is possible to provide an indication of the routes that would
likely be used by future site residents to access employment destinations on a
daily basis.
5.3.2 Following this methodology, it has been identified that approximately 37 per cent
of vehicle movements will route west on the A2 towards the Medway Towns, with
63 per cent routeing east towards Sittingbourne. At the A2 / A249 / Bobbing Hill
/ Sheppey Way / Chestnut Street (Key Street) roundabout, 41 per cent of vehicles
will enter the A249 (south), with 10 per cent travelling via Sheppey Way. A further
11 per cent will utilise the A2 Key Street, with less than one per cent continuing
to Chestnut Street.
5.3.3 Based on the above analysis, the following trip distribution is produced, as shown
in Table 5-6 overleaf. Please note that the figures outlined below have been
rounded to the nearest whole number.
