              30a 30 TAUTLINE HITCH
The Tautline Hitch, which gets its name
from being used to adjust the guy ropes
on tents, is made up of a Rolling Hitch (42)
formed with the working end of a line
applied to its own standing part. The hitch
can be moved up to tighten the line, but
then, when loaded, it holds firmly, providing
a taut line. Start by forming a loop (30a)
and roll the working end down round the
standing part into the loop. Then take the
working end up and apply a Half Hitch (2)
above the starting point (30b). The hitch
is then worked tight (30c) and the loop
                                     adjusted and loaded.
