            31 MANHARNESS KNOT 31a
            The Manharness Knot enables you
to form a secure loop in a line whose
ends are fixed, and a sequence of
            Manharness Knots can actually be
used to make a rudimentary ladder
            in an emergency. Beware though,
because if yanked out of shape the
knot is likely to turn into a running
knot or noose. The Butterfly Knot [63]
may be a better knot for this purpose. 31b
Begin by forming a loop as in 31a,
then weave the lower side of the loop
under the crossing line and over the
upper side of the loop to achieve the
shape in 31b. From there it is simply
a case of adjusting the loop size and
then settling the knot securely, as in
            31c.

                                                                31c
