11 A SELECTION OF USEFUL KNOTS

             62a 62b

             62c 62d

            62 SURGEON’S KNOT
The Surgeon’s Knot or Ligature Knot A variation on the Surgeon’s Knot
comes from tying slippery sutures is formed by making an Overhand
and is a smart and secure way of Knot with the extra turn, followed
tying any slippery synthetic line more by a second Overhand Knot with an
securely than a Reef Knot (5). The extra turn to give the shape shown
knot is begun by making an Overhand in 62d.
Knot (1) with an extra turn, as in 62a.
Then, taking care to keep the ends on
their own sides, tie another Overhand
Knot (62b) in the opposite direction.
That’s the knot; it now needs only to
be tightened until it settles neatly
into the shape shown in 62c.
