59 MANROPE KNOT 59a
The Manrope Knot or Double Wall and Crown
Knot makes use of both the Double Wall Knot
(58) and the Crown Knot (56) – just as the name
suggests – to form a large stopper knot that used
to be used in the end of a rope provided to help you
haul yourself aboard. The Double Wall Knot is tied
first with the Crown Knot above it.
Begin the Double Wall Knot by tucking each
strand up under its neighbour in a pattern
following the direction of the rope’s lay (59a). Leave
everything very loose at this stage. Next form a
Crown Knot by tucking each strand down over its 59b
neighbour in the same direction as the
lay (59b), again keeping all the strands loose.
Now, with each knot formed, lead the strands
down and follow round the Wall Knot to double
it (59c and 59d). Finally double round the Crown
Knot and gently work the whole knot tight (59e)
before cutting off the strands close under the
finished knot and tucking them out of sight.
