              7 SEIZING

              52a 52 ROUND SEIZING
The Round Seizing is akin to a Common Whipping
(50), but is usually used to bind two parts of a rope
together. It is begun like the Common Whipping
by laying a loop of whipping twine or light cord
(depending upon the size of the rope being seized)
towards the eye as in 52a. Next lay on a series of
binding turns and pass the end of the whipping
twine or cord through the enclosed loop (52b).
Draw the loop down to the top of the seizing (52c)
then pass the working end of the twine round the
seizing turns, between the two parts of the rope,
in a series of tight turns. Finish off (52d) by tying
              52b
the two ends of the seizing together with a Reef
Knot (5) between the two parts of the rope.
(Remember that when using whipping twine it will
look far smaller and neater than it does in this photo
where cord is used for clarity.)
