            51 WEST COUNTRY WHIPPING 51a
The West Country Whipping is another quick
and easy way to secure the end of a rope against
fraying. It consists of a series of Overhand Knots
            (1) tied on opposite sides of the rope. First tie the
twine around the rope (51a), then turn the rope
over and tie the next Overhand Knot (51b).
Turn back again and make another knot, then
turn over and repeat as far as is required (51c)
before finishing with a Reef Knot (5).
If the rope being whipped is at all hard, the
West Country Whipping will enlarge it. Check that 51b
it will still render through fairleads or jammers if
            required to.
