             54 MARLINE SPIKE HITCH
             The Marline Spike Hitch can be tied quickly and
             released instantly, just by withdrawing the marline
             spike or bar. It is an excellent way of gaining a good
             pulling grip on a rope or line that is otherwise hard
             to grip. Always pull against the crossed part (A);
             don’t put the load on that side.
                Form a crossed loop as in 54a, with the load-
             bearing part of the line entering from top left in
             the photo. Slip a marline spike or stout bar under
             the loaded part and across the loop (54b), then
             pull against the crossed part (A).
