Proficiency Course Driver Training
October 14th Goorum
Mary & Shane Mason
Barry Tanner
John Toogood
Shane & I did our pre course with Peter White (Theory)
Then Saturday dawned bright & clear. We met at Yarra Glen for a convoy to Yea then onto the
training grounds out of Yarck. Barry first, then Mary and I and then John at the rear.
Drive uneventful till we arrived at second gate. John pointed our we had an oil leak from our left
rear wheel and hub.
The problem was some of the hubs screws had sheared off, only leaving a couple attached.
BUGGER!!!
It became obvious to everyone that the troop was not going anywhere else today.
But still we persevered.
First lesson was how to secure our vehicle & jack it up and why we need blocks of wood.
Then have a cuppa & then decide what to do.
Options discussed & RACV (Total Care – worth every cent) seemed like safest option.
Rather than cancel the day and waste time effort and fuel in the trip to the course, it was decided
to persevere, Barry and John agreed, that Mary and I could do the course in their vehicles.
So onward & upwards…
The differences between snatch straps & tree protectors and uses of demonstrated.
Then driving through wombat holes & driving around a small course up hills & down
and over boulders.
Then the emergency stops, indicating for the kangaroos.
