 Orchard of Delights 1

Both God’s four-letter name, the Tetragrammaton, and the
name Elokim are translated as “God,” but in those verses where the
Tetragrammaton is followed by Elokim, the former is italicized and
the latter not, thus, “Hear O Israel, God our God [Hashem Elokeinu],
God is one” (Deuteronomy 6:4). In deference to the custom adopted
by many people of not pronouncing God’s name as it is written
except in prayer or when reading the Torah, when the Divine name
“Elohim” is used, it is spelled as “Elokim.” Orchard Of delights
