This book is the product of thirty years of notes and outlines written
down as various insights came to me and as I prepared to teach Torah
classes and deliver talks or lectures on Shabbats and holidays. It is
therefore with a great deal of gratitude that I acknowledge the many
people who were instrumental in this book’s birth.
I would like to thank my editor Rabbi Meshulam Gotlieb whose
expertise improved, clarified, and sharpened the original manuscript
immeasurably. It was a labor of love and the results show it.
I would also like to thank David Hillel whose skill helped create the
beautiful format and ensured the quality production of the book.
As in all of my books, I would like to acknowledge my two most
formative teachers – Rabbi Yitzchak Ginsburgh and Rabbi Shlomo
Carlebach – whose wisdom and spirit have accompanied me in all
my Torah endeavors. Although both of these esteemed teachers
are frequently quoted in this book, this does not sufficiently reveal
the enormous influence they have had and continue to have on me.
Many thanks are likewise due to Rabbi Zev Leff who has graciously
reviewed this book as well as all my other books and written beautiful
approbations for each of them.
As with any undertaking like this one, financial support played
a crucial role in making this book a reality. I am therefore greatly
indebted to those individuals who stepped forward and assisted
financially. First and foremost, I would like to thank an anonymous
donor who took the initiative to pledge a significant sum when raising
money for the venture did not seem realistic. This act of kindness
jump-started the project and instilled within me with the belief that
I would raise enough funds to make the book a reality. I am eternally
grateful for this great kindness.
