               [ 3 ] {Awareness} One who does not accept upon himself the                          רוּבִּדּ אוּה הַמ ַעדֵוֹי וֹניֵאְו ,דֹאְמ טוּשָׁפּ שׁיִא אוּהֶשׁ וֹא
               obligation to discipline his speech, even though every intelligent
               person  would  conclude  that  most  certainly  he  would  fall  into               רֹמְשִׁל זרֵָזְל ךְירִָצ יאַדַּוְבּ וֹמְצַע תֶא םָדָאָה לָבֲא .רוּסָאָה
               sin because of the many words spoken throughout the day. This                       לַע ,םוֹלָשְׁו סַח ,הֶיְהִיְו ,רקְֵפֶהְכּ הֶיְהִי אלֶֹּשׁ ,וֹנוֹשְׁלוּ ויִפּ
               person will also not  remember to do Teshuvah for what he has
               said and will not accept upon himself that going forward he will                    ךְירִָצ דַבְלִבּ הֶז םוּשִּׁמוּ .ךְרַָבְּתִי 'ה יֵניֵעְבּ עָשׁרְָכּ הֶז ידְֵי
               not to fall into these sins, since that awareness is the very essence                    .הרָיִמְשַּׁה תַבוֹח וֹמְצַע לַע לֵבּקְַל בָבְּלִנַּה שׁיִאָה
               of Teshuvah.  The pasuk describes this as (Yeshayah 55:7) “the
               evil one should give up that lifestyle…and then will return to
               Hashem.”  Even if this person recites “We have sinned” (in the                      ,רֵחַא םוֹקָמְבּ יִתְּבַתָכֶּשׁ ,רָבָדּ ה ֹּפ קיִתְּעַהְל יִתּרְַמָא דוֹע
               vidduy)  and  “We  have  spoken  slanderously  \  hypocritically,”                  םָלוֹעָה הָמ לַע :):ט"יק תָבַּשׁ( ל"ַזֲח וּרְמָא .וּנֵנָיְנִעְל ךְָיַּשְׁו
               he does not (cannot) recall them (all of the words of forbidden
               language  that  he  spoke)  and  so  he  does  not  at  all  accept  the            רַמָא .ןָבּרַ תיֵבּ לֶשׁ תוֹקוֹניִתּ לֶשׁ םֶהיִפּ לֶבֶה לַע ?םָיּקַ
               obligation to be careful to avoid them.  However, when one accepts                  רַמָא ?)וּהַמ ךְָלֶּשְׁו יִלֶּשׁ( יאַמ ךְָדידְִו ידִיִדּ :אָברְָל יֵיַּבַּא הֵּל
               the responsibility of disciplined speech, even if subsequently he
               should mistakenly fall into a sin, the damage will be minimal and                   ןיֵאֶשׁ ,ויִפּ לֶבֶהְל ,אְטֵח וֹבּ שֵׁיֶּשׁ ,ויִפּ לֶבֶה הֶמוֹדּ וֹניֵא :הֵּל
               he will know how to implement Teshuvah.
                                                                                                   יאַדַּוְבּ הָיָהֶשׁ ,םיִשׁוֹדְקַּה םיִארָוֹמָאָה וּלִּפֲאַדּ ירֲֵה .אְטֵח וֹבּ
               [  4  ]  {Habit}  Because  of  man’s  force  of  habit,  he  will                   ערָָה ןוֹשָׁל יאַדַּוְבּ הָיָה אלֹ םָלְצֶאְו ,ןֶגֹהַכּ 'ה םֵשְׁל םָדוּמִּל
               unintentionally, repeatedly relate the degradation of his fellow
               man or verbally oppress him (and so on for all other categories                     הֶזיֵא יאַדַּוְבּ םִא יִכּ ,שָׁמַּמ םירִוּסֲא םירִוּבִּדּ רָאְשׁוּ תוּליִכרְוּ
               of speech).  This unintentional speech also has included within                     וּלְשְׁכִנ םיִמָעְפִלֶּשׁ הֶזָבְדּ ,וּרְמָא יִכָה וּלִּפֲא ,קָבָאְדּ קָבָא
               it the categories of Lashon Hara and abusive language, as was
               explained  in  the  Introduction  to  Sefer  Chafetz  Chayim  in  the               ,םֶהיִפּ לֶבֶה םָלְצֶא לקְֵלקְַתִנ ,קָבָאְדּ קָבָאְבּ םֶהיֵיַּח יֵמיִבּ
               Aseh of “Remember,” and in the words of the Rambam and in                                        .ךְָכּ לָכּ הָשׁוֹדקְ הָּניֵא םָתרָוֹתְו
               the Ramban.  (Please see those references).  But that would not
               be the case if he had accepted upon himself the responsibility to                   סָנַּנְכּ  םָדוּמִּל  יֵבַּגְל  וּנדֵוּמִּל  תַשּׁדְֻקֶּשׁ  וּנְחַנֲא  אָליֵמִּמוּ
               discipline his speech, he would not have come to this.  And if
               occasionally he did come to this point, he will be sensitive to the                 תוּליִכרְוּ ערָָה ןוֹשָׁלְבּ וּניִפּ תֶא אֵמַּטְנ דוֹע םִא ,קָנֲע יֵבַּגְל
               words he spoke and he would seek to correct any wrongs.
                                                                                                   הַמ ןֵכּ לַעְו .וּנידֵוּמִּל לַע לוּחָל לוֹכָי הָשּׁדְֻקּ הַמ ,הֶמוֹדַּכְו

               [ 5 ] {Social gatherings} It is very well known and commonplace                     לָכּ יִכּ .הרָיִמְשַּׁה תַבוֹח וֹמְצַע לַע לֵבּקְַמַה תַלֲעַמ הָלוֹדְגּ
               that everywhere people gather together to speak, everyone says
               whatever they want.  It does not even occur to them at all to                       םירִוּבִּדּ  רֵבּדְַלִּמ  וֹרוּבִּדּ  לַע  וֹלְצֶא  הרָיִמְשׁ  ףֵסוֹתִּתֶּשׁ  הַמ
               contemplate  if  this  type  of  speech  is  permitted  or  forbidden.              ירְֵבִדּ רָאְשׁוּ וֹתרָוֹתּ לַע הָשּׁדֻקְ אָליֵמִּמ וֹל ףֵסוֹתִּתּ ,םירִוּסֲא
               During  the  course  of  an  hour,  it  is  likely  that  every  form  of
               forbidden speech will be spoken.  All of these words ascend On                                        .רֵבּדְַמ אוּהֶשׁ הָשּׁדֻקְ
