               ןֵקַּתְל לַכוּי וֹבֶּשׁ ,וֹשְׁפַנְבּ אוּה ךְוּרָבּ שׁוֹדָקַּה עַטָנֶּשׁ ,רוּבִּדַּה

               לָכְבוּ ,תוֹבֵתּ תוֹאֵמ הָמַּכּ דֹמְלִל לוֹכָי ,]םיִעָגרְ[ - ןיִטוּניִמ
 Preface
               לָכִּמוּ ,הרָוֹתַּה דוּמִּל לֶשׁ הֵשֲׂע תַוְצִמ םֵיּקְַמ אוּה הָבֵתְו הָבֵתּ
               .וֹתָמְשִׁנ דַעְבּ ץיִלְמַהְל דָחֶא טיִלקְרְַפּ ארְָבִנ הֵשֲׂע תַוְצִמ
 Within the subject of man’s speech, it is common to find several
 categories, namely, Lashon Hara, Rechilut, lies, flattery, scoffing,    ,"םיִבּרַ םיִערֵ ףיִסֹי ןוֹה" :)'ד ט"י יֵלְשִׁמ( בוּתָכַּה רַמָא הֶז לַעְו
 controversy, anger, haughtiness, oppressive (hurtful) speech and
 speech that causes embarrassment.  Regarding the subjects of    .יֵלְשִׁמְבּ א"רְָגַּה בַתָכֶּשׁ וֹמְכוּ ,הרָוֹתּ לֶשׁ הָּנוֹה ידְֵי לַע וּנְיַהְו
 Lashon Hara and Rechilut, we have already written about them,    .ןָמְיּקְַמֶּשׁ םדֶקֹ הֶהוֹשׁ ,תוְֹצִמ רָאְשִׁבּ ןֵכּ ןיֵאֶשּׁ הַמ
 with  Gd’s  help,  in  Sefer  Chafetz  Chayim  and  Sefer  Shemirat
 HaLashon and these sefarim have been widely distributed, with    אוּה ,יֵלְשִׁמְבּ רוּמָאָה "לִיַח תֶשֵׁא" קרֶֶפַּהֶשׁ ַעוּדָי הֵנִּהְו
 Gd’s kindness throughout Jewish society.  I said to my soul that
 all of these categories of speech are addressed in many pesukim    תוֹנָבּ תוֹבּרַ" :)ט"כ א"ל יֵלְשִׁמ( הָּבּ םֵיַּסְמוּ .הרָוֹתַּה לַע זֶמרֶ
 of the Torah.  Those who are not careful to avoid these esurim
 will  very  likely  stumble  in  them  since  they  are  so  commonly    לָכִּמֶּשׁ ףַא ,וֹשׁוּרֵפוּ ."הָנָלֻּכּ לַע תיִלָע ְתַּאְו ,לִיָח וּשָׂע
 found.  Many of them are Laveen which are explicit in the Torah    'לִיַח' הֵּטָשְׁפִכּ וֹא ,שֶׁפֶנַּל זֹעְו ַח ֹּכ ,'לִיַח' הָשֲׂעַנ תוְֹצִמַּה
 and will ruin and defile the power of a person’s speech.
               ץיִלְמַהְל דָחֶא ץיִלֵמ ארְָבִנ הָוְצִמוּ הָוְצִמ לָכִּמ יִכּ ,שָׁמַּמ
 Therefore  I  have  taken  upon  myself  the  obligation  to  arouse
 myself and others to be especially careful in this regard not to    לַע תיִלָע" ,"לִיַח תֶשֵׁא"ָה וּנְיַה ,ְתַּא לָבֲא .וֹתָמְשִׁנ דַעְבּ
 allow Hashem’s mitzvot, Gd forbid, to become trivialized and    הָמַּכּ םיִארְָבִנ הרָוֹתּ דוּמִּל לֶשׁ תַחַא הָעָשִּׁמ יִכּ ."הָנָלֻּכּ
 meaningless.  It is well known that the Sefer Chasidim writes
 (sections #105, #261) that a mitzvah which society is not all that    ַחֵמָשׂ ,ויָלָע לָטֻּמֶּשּׁ הַמ םיִלְשַׁמ םָדָאָהֶשְׁכוּ .םיִכָאְלַמ תוֹאֵמ
 anxious to perform is like the mitzvah of attending to the needs    חַמְשִׂי" :)א"ל ד"ק םיִלִּהְתּ( בוּתָכֶּשׁ וֹמְכּ ,וֹבּ אוּה ךְוּרָבּ שׁוֹדָקַּה
 of a solitary, unattended corpse.  Such a mitzvah, which no one
 runs after to perform – you should run after it and perform it.     ט"מ הָיְעַשְׁי( בוּתָכֶּשׁ וֹמְכּ ,הָלְעַמְל וֹבּ רֵאָפְּתִמוּ ."ויָשֲׂעַמְבּ 'ה
 These unattended mitzvot prosecute and lament – “how ugly am
 I, that I am hidden away from everyone.”  When one becomes   ."רָאָפְּתֶא ךְָבּ רֶשֲׁא לֵארְָשִׂי" :)'ג
 motivated \ aroused to observe them, these mitzvot will advocate
 merit for this person in front of Hashem Yitbarach.   וֹתְּכאַלְמ םיִלְשַׁמ אוּהֶשְׁכּ ,רוּבִּדַּה ַח ֹּכ לֶשׁ תוֹלֲעַמַּהֵמוּ

 The  reason  that  the  pasuk  singled  out  the  discipline  of  one’s    אוּהֶשְׁכּ  דֵסְפֶהַה  לדֶֹּג  ,וֹכְּפֶהְל  םַגּ  ןֵנוֹבְּתִהְל  לוֹכָי  ,ןֶגֹהַכּ
 mouth more than any other organ of the body, even though one    הָמַּכּ  ארְֹבִל  לוֹכָיֶּשׁ  ,קרָָבְכּ  ץרָ  אוּהֶשׁ  תֵעְבּ  וֹבּ  לקְֵלקְַמ
 must discipline one’s eyes and ears and hands and other organs,
 and  guard  them  carefully  so  as  not  to  do  anything  with  them    בוּתָכַּה דֵחִי הֶז לָכּ רוּבֲעַו .דֹאְמ רָצקָ ןַמְזִבּ םיִגרְְטקְַמ תוֹאֵמ
