FOREWORD
Praise be to Allah SWT, Creator of the universe. Blessings and
peace be upon the Prophet Muhammad SAW, his family members,
his companions, the tabi’in, and those who follow his ways.
I thank Allah SWT, with His permission, Pusat Pungutan Zakat
(PPZ-MAIWP), along with the ongoing effort by Zakat Academy
(AZKA-PPZ), has successfully published a book titled Zakat &
Waqf: Impact on Women and Community Development. It is a
compilation of research articles contributed by diverse researchers.
The role and contribution of zakat and waqf is clear and often
highlighted in various discourses. However, the contribution of
these two instruments to the development of women and families is
seen to be less highlighted. Meanwhile, the contribution can lead to
a reciprocal process, where women who benefit from zakat and waqf
will play their role optimally again to help develop the potential of
zakat and waqf to other target groups. Therefore, it is suggested to
highlight aspects of women and family development in the discourse
of zakat through the production of this book. This directly explains
the role of zakat and waqf which is so holistic and takes into account
every aspect of the life of Muslims in general.
This book is also part of PPZ-MAIWP's ongoing effort to address
current concerns in Islamic social finance, such as zakat, waqaf, and
philanthropy. State Islamic Religious Councils and Zakat
Institutions should constantly be proactive in their efforts to
empower women and communities. As a result, I anticipated that
readers and all parties may properly utilise the research findings and
information in this book.
