one-off payment of RM300 and 6-month payments of RM250 per
month, respectively (Sam Flanders et al., 2020).
Meanwhile, Islamic institutions such as zakat centers are also
encouraged to help the people’s burden by channeling funds to those
in need. This study will introduce two aids carried out by PPZ,
namely Musa’adah Khas Khaira (MKK) aid and Musa’adah
Khaira Siswa (MKS) aid
AN OVERVIEW ABOUT THE AID
Generally, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the global
economy, and the low-income earners that are considered the most
vulnerable have been severely affected. In Malaysia, the B40
category of people earning less than RM 4,360 per month was the
most adversely affected because they have little or no savings, and
their economic activities were grounded due to the Movement
Control Order (MCO). Consequently, in order to extend financial
support to those in need, PPZ implemented two types of one-off
financial aid program called Musa’adah Khas Khaira (MKK) aid
and Musa’adah Khaira Siswa (MKS) aid.
The Musa’adah Khas Khaira (MKK) Aid Project
The MKK aid project was to give a one-time RM300 financial
assistance to families or individuals belonging to the B40 income
group regardless of race or religion. The MKK project is the
initiative with the best possible screening measures to ensure only
eligible applicants got assistance. In order to ensure transparency
and control, the following eligibility requirements were set by PPZ
for the applicants. This project was implemented in the month of
April 2020 (Sinar Harian, the 2nd of April 2020).
