University and are consistent with the mission. However, they may not be currently offered in
a compelling way and may have more potential than indicated.
Programs in the Phase Out category require considerable scrutiny, with sensitivity to
current student progression and internal demand, but with an eye towards possible sunset.
The detailed report provides multiple perspectives and supports for the results. However,
several compelling themes emerged from the review that should be considered along with the
categorization of the programs:
• Due to legacy circumstances, many programs have insufficient resources to credibly
grow their programs
• Many programs indicate that there is insufficient facility space
• There has been insufficient attention to student success outcomes and a lack of lab space
and resources dedicated within program areas
• There are too many manual academic and administrative processes
• There is very limited investment in research activity
• Significantly more investment is needed for online resources
• Programs can be supported by additional investment in continuing education and
certification programs that complement academic programs
It is clear that current funding is under a continuing downward pressure and any new
resources must be generated from our strategic initiatives and with better management of
resources. Therefore, it is imperative that an examination like the PPI take place. The
university must use new and existing resources in the most efficient manner possible within
