CLUBS SPREAD THE JOY AND MAGIC OF THE SEASON
A TOUCHSTONE STORY
FROM
OZONE PARK / HOWARD BEACH /
WOODHAVEN LIONS CLUB
In January 2021, the Lions Club was contacted about a little boy who
lost his arm at his mother's bakery in Ecuador. They came to America
to seek medical attention and settled in Corona.
Because our Facebook page www.facebook.com/groups/ozoneparkvoice
reaches upwards of 100,000 viewers, I immediately posted the need.
Within 20 minutes, I was contacted by Mr. Glenn Easton (son-in-law of
our club’s Vice President) who owns a prosthetic company. He
graciously volunteered to donate a new limb with all ancillary medical
services, each year until the victim turned 18 years old.
But COVID-19 brought the world to a staggering shutdown.
On December 4, 2021, the boy and his mother were chauffeured to
our annual tree lighting where Santa presented him with a special gift
- his first prosthetic arm! and a check for holiday goodies and food.
It was the most moving experience to watch the delight on the child’s
face and the joyful smile from his speechless mother. (see photos).
In September 2022, at our 1st Annual Ozone Park Awards Gala, and
Mr. Glenn Easton was honored with “The Man of The Year Award”,
presented by the little boy with his prosthetic arm. (see photo).
Another most moving moment!
The power of our Facebook group is amazingly strong and has been
credited with many of the successful service projects that the club has
accomplished.
We are proud Lions who serve our community.
