Preparing for the Bedside Assessment
Prior to entering room: check precautions on door (contact,
droplet, airborne) and don appropriate personal protective
equipment. If unsure check at nurses station
Wash hands/ use hand sanitizer
Introduce yourself to patient/family, give title, role in facility and
your role in VNSNY
Let patient know who sent you to their room, and why
Ask if convenient time to talk, if not ask permission to return
If there are friends/family in the patients room, ask if ok to speak in
front of them
Don’t touch the patient since you are not an hospital employee
