Speech-Language Pathology

For patients of all ages su ering from a serious illness or
injury, VNSNY expert speech and language pathologists use
advanced techniques and best-practice protocols to help
restore communication skills in everyday situations, and to
promote safe swallowing. By focusing on restoring function
and independence to the fullest level possible, speech-
language pathology speeds recovery and improves
overall patient outcomes. Our speech pathologists:
• Help patients regain and adapt to day-to-day activities
• Improve motor skills to help produce clearer speech
• Teach strategies so that speaking and understanding
language becomes easier
• Help reduce frustration
• Design and teach personalized swallowing programs
• Instruct on voice retraining
• Teach alternate or augmentative communication for

those who cannot speak
Conditions where speech-language pathology is bene cial
include stroke, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS),
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s, head
or brain injury, head and neck cancer and serious
long-term illnesses.
