STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE

 Upon entering the patient’s home:
• Follow your Mandatory Visit Verification
• Identify and place the bag in a clean place.
• Perform hand hygiene.
• Place items on a clean surface or on a barrier, such as
a paper towel.
• Open clean part of bag and remove items needed for
patient care
• Close the bag.
• Provide patient care.
Note:
 If you need to re-enter the bag - cleanse your hands with
hand sanitizer, get the item, and close the bag

 Cleanse/disinfect reusable items before returning them to
the bag.
 Disposable items are discarded per agency policy.
 Perform hand hygiene
• Hand sanitizer is OK to use at this time, unless you are
grossly soiled from the wound situation, then you must
use soap and water
 Put reusable items back in bag.
 Perform hand hygiene:
• After patient care
• Documentation
• Just before leaving home
