Key Points to Remember
No staff member may administer, pre-pour or supervise the
administration of any medication that is not clearly labeled.
The Home Health Aide/Home Attendant may assist the patient with
pre-poured oral medication administration or blister packs as outlined
in the Paraprofessional Plan of Care left in the patient’s home.
The nurse must be aware of medications that should not be pre-
poured, such as PRN pain medications or others which must be
stored in its own container (i.e., sublingual nitroglycerin).
Patient's physical or cognitive impairments must be clearly
documented in the patient record either in the initial assessment or
subsequent visit notes.
