this task:

options for each question.
• During the first listening,
listen for specific information,
choosing the best option.
• During the second listening,
check that the answer is
correct, focusing on the key
information.

Part 2, candidates are given
a choice of four tasks, one of
which is to write a story of
140–190 words. For the story, they
are given a sentence and must use
it either at the beginning, or the
end of their story. This part of the
exam tests the candidates’ ability
to write well-organised texts with
a real communicative purpose and
good use of narrative tenses.
Encourage your students to do
the following when they approach
this task:
• Candidates should read all
the tasks and consider the
topic and the language that
is needed in each before
choosing the task that best
suits them.
• For the chosen task, identify
what is required and who
it is for, and what kind of
information is needed.

• Look for opportunities to develop ideas and show a range of language.
• Write a rough draft before writing the final answer. Make sure that it is
well-organised and has a range of tenses, expressions and vocabulary.
• Read the work again to check that it makes sense and that all the content
points have been included. Check the spelling.
