Selected Faculty Accomplishments 2015-2016
Ron Abate Dr. Abate co-presented "Building an Interdisciplinary Support Network for University-Assisted
Schools” at the University-Assisted Community Schools Conference.
Tachelle Banks Dr. Banks was promoted from Associate Professor to Full Professor. In addition, she was
selected as one of 10 “Women of Influence” by the Cleveland State University Office of Inclusion
and Multicultural Engagement.
Molly Buckley Dr. Buckley received the Fall 2015 Civic Engagement Award.
Paula Chan Dr. Chan presented her research entitled “Evaluating and improving student responses to
functional assessment interviews” at the Association for Positive Behavior Support International
Conference. She also published a paper entitled “Reducing fearful behavior near water and
increasing water approach skills.”
Cynthia Dieterich Dr. Dieterich co-authored a chapter entitled “Navigating the Current Legal Landscape of the
Identification and Eligibility of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder”. She also co-authored
and published an article called, “A Legal Study of Children with Emotional Disturbance and
Mental Health Needs and Implications for Practice.”
Robert Ferguson Dr. Ferguson received the Multi-College Interdisciplinary Research Program (MIRP) Award for his
project entitled “Designing Drug Delivery Materials with the Help of High School Students.” He
also received the Undergraduate Summer Research Award.
Grace Huang Dr. Huang co-authored chapter entitled, “Confucianism, Chinese Families, and Academic
Achievement: Exploring How Confucianism and Asian Descendant Parenting Practices Influence
Children’s Academic Achievement”. She also received the Undergraduate Summer Research
Award.
Debbie Jackson Dr. Jackson was Invited to speak at the Cleveland Engineering Society Conference. She also co-
presented "Building an Interdisciplinary Support Network for University-Assisted Schools” at the
University-Assisted Community Schools Conference.
Anthony Menendez Dr. Menendez received the Technology Award in the amount of $500.
James Moore Dr. Moore published an article called “Teaching the Black Death in Social Studies Courses”. He
presented a peer-reviewed paper entitled "Teaching Politics and History Using Art" at the
Humanities Education and Research Association (HERA) Conference. He also published an
article entitled “You Cannot Say That in American Schools: Attacks on the First Amendment”.
Roland Pourdavood Dr. Pourdavood published an article entitled "Access and Equity in Mathematics Education." He
was also invited to present his research paper presentation at the North American Chapter of the
International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education (PME-NA) Conference. The
paper will be included in the proceedings publication.
Patrick Wachira Dr. Wachire published an article entitled "Access and Equity in Mathematics Education."
Karl Wheatley Dr. Wheatley published an op-ed on healthy nutrition on Cleveland.com called, “What We Eat
Does Matter – in the World of Truly Low-fat Foods.”
