Points of Pride
The Department of Teacher Education offers 7 fully accredited undergraduate, 8 graduate
licensure and degree programs. We offer 7 certificate and endorsement programs. Our
preparation programs are well designed for prospective and experienced educators. Teacher
Education faculty are fully engaged in teaching, research and service that informs the quality
preparation of our candidates across programs.
Points of Pride Description
Signature Clinical Educator Clinical educator preparation programs provide early practical experiences that support the
Preparation Programs professional development of prospective candidates. Candidates participate in a strengthened
(undergraduate) curriculum and more than 700 hours of clinical experience, bridging the gap between theory
and practice.
STEM and Humanities A unique university-based secondary STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and
programs Humanities (English/Language Arts, Social Studies and Foreign Language) educator
preparation program that provides early and intensive clinical experiences to promote candidate
self-efficacy and build stronger connections between theory and practice.
CHAMPS program The CHAMPS program introduces high school students to a variety of high-wage, high-skills
careers in health and medicine. The curriculum is multidisciplinary and promotes problem
solving by completing hands-on research activities and projects.
Fully Accredited Educator All undergraduate licensure programs are recognized by the Council for Accreditation of
Preparation Programs Educator Preparation (CAEP) and their respective Specialized Professional Association (SPA).
Community Learning Center The Community Learning Center for Children and Youth (CLC) provides an engaged-learning
experience for students at Cleveland State while serving the community by offering free
assessment and tutoring programs for children at the elementary and middle-school grade
levels who have difficulties with reading, math, or learning in general.
Professional Partnerships Serves both pre-service teachers and area districts' students and teachers, by providing quality
field experiences for future teachers in the classrooms of experienced mentor teachers.
Student Supports Teacher Education faculty and staff are committed to increasing the number of students who
successfully complete our degree and licensure programs. Extended faculty office hours, timely
responses to student concerns and additional advising services are a few ways we have
enhanced our supports for students. There has also been the recent addition of a student
resource room located in JH 334 which is supplied with course textbooks for student use. In
Spring 2016, the department distributed six Student Disposition Awards to students majoring in
Middle Childhood Education, Special Education, and Adolescent-Young Adult Education. Each
student was selected based on their character and work ethic and was awarded a $2500
scholarship from the Teacher Education Department.
High Quality faculty Teacher Education faculty are knowledgeable and experienced professionals. They are experts
in their respective disciplines are committed to bridging the gap between theory and practice
and preparing high quality educators.
Multicultural Learning and Multicultural Learning and Teaching, a De Gruyter publication, is now housed in CoEHS,
Teaching International Department of Teacher Education. Multicultural Learning and Teaching (MLT) is a
Journal multidisciplinary international journal that explores the education of people from diverse
multicultural backgrounds in a variety of learning environments, inside and outside the
classroom.
