IMPLEMENTATION OF
PROJECT
Objectives 1. To design and fabricate efficient steamed cooker for fish cracker process-
ing.
2. To design and fabricate efficient fish cracker cutting machine.
3. To improvise the work flow of production line to make it more productive.
Methodology
Activities Conducted 1. Visit to fish factory in Perak to benchmark the process at collaborator’s
company.
2. Design for the equipment to be used in the process by Final Year student.
3. Collaboration between university and the company in fabrication of
equipment.
4. Seminar to company’s staff with regards to clean process and work
safety.
Output 1. Design and fabrication of efficient steamed cooker for fish cracker (100%).
2. Design and fabrication of fish cracker cutting machine (100%).
3. Improvisation on the arrangement of production line to make it more
productive (100%).
1. Steamed cooker and fish cracker cutter fabricated facilitated to
Industry increase productivity of the factory.
2. Improvisation on arrangement of production line making the process
more efficient.
3. Work safety courses and HACCP certification conducted promoted
awareness on work safety and product produced.
Public Higher Learning Institute 1. Two (2) paper works produced for conferences - NCON PGR 2015 and
ICKT 2015.
2. Outcome of the project exhibited in Citrex 2014.
3. The project strengthened UMP’s image and credibility with the applicati-
on of problem-solving technology to nearby SME.
4. Learning through direct exposure to the students on industrial needs helps 33
the students to nurture their communication and project management
skills.
5. Technical skills obtained from fabrication work provide more confidence to
the students involved.
Human Capital Development 1. One (1) research assistant pursued study at postgraduate level through
financing via this KTP grant.
2. Four (4) undergraduate students completed their thesis on the project.
3. Two (2) Diploma students completed their industrial training through
collaboration with industry in this project.
4. Two (2) UMP’s alumni appointed as research assistant.
5. Three (3) technical staff facilitated in the fabrication of equipment
designed.
PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED
1. The project need to be extended for six (6) months due to issue in quality of work and
commitment of staff in fabricating the equipment.
2. Idea for improvisation proposed to the industry faced challenges for execution due to
the mentality of staff which were difficult to accept new changes. Management of
the SME also face difficulties to adopt strict approach as they need to manage their
workforce which are difficult to be replaced.
