IMPLEMENTATION OF
     IMPLEMENTATION OF
     PROJECT
     PROJECT

          Objectives 1. To disseminate the knowledge of formulation of lignin based bioadhesive to prepare wood
                                composite;
                           2. To apply green technology for the production of particle board; and
                           3. To increase the economic gain of the industry through application of the proposed technology.

          Methodology Phase 1: The knowledge in the formulation of lignin
                                       based bioadhesive will be disseminated for the
                                       manufacturing of particleboard in the pilot plant of
                                       Mieco board.

                                       Phase 2: The optimum operating conditions (i.e pH,
                                       temperature, concentration of enzymes, soy flour
                                       amount) for the formulation of biodhessive will be
                                       used for the manufacturing of particle board.

                                       Phase 3: Appropriate scaling up process will be
                                       conducted with the same characteristics.

          Activities       1.  Disseminate the knowledge of formulation of bioadhesive to company;
          Conducted        2.  Application of knowledge in the synthesis of bioadhesive and manufacturing of boards;
                           3.  Conducting the mechanical and physical testing to check market standard;
                           4. Refining of the process on the basis of results and optimizing the operating conditions; and
                           5.  Project report.

          Output
          Industry         1.  The company become capable of producing particleboard using novel bioadhesive formulation;
                             and
                                                                                                                 77
                                                                                                                 02
                           2. The company can offer eco-friendly product in the market, which will not cause cancer. 15

     PROBLEMS IDENTIFIED

     1. The industrial partner was not willing to provide Pilot plant facilities to conduct the trials. Therefore, the remaining trials
         were conducted in Forest Research Institute, KL and the Pilot plant of FKKSA, UMP; and

     2. There were changes in the senior management of the company and the research team was not permitted to meet the
         technical staff and to conduct the final trials. As a result, the final trials were not conducted in the plant
