The ritual of fasting is not meant to torture people; rather, it
aims at refining our souls as this should be accompanied by good
manners and avoidance of any evil deeds that drive us away from
Allah like backbiting, gossiping, foul language, swearing, violence, or
bad manners. The purpose of fasting is that we may learn taqwa, as
Allah Almighty said :

نِم ني ِلَّا على بِتك امك ماي ِ صلا مكيلع بِتك اونمآ نيِلَّا اهيأ اي

نوقتت مكلعل مكِلبق
“Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was
prescribed to those who were before you, in order that you may learn
Taqwa (piety and righteousness)" (Al-Baqarah 2:183)
Dear brothers and sisters,
What is taqwa? In Holy Quran and Sunnah, Taqwa is defined as
the concept of protecting oneself from the Hellfire by following the
orders of Allah Almighty, by doing what He (SWT) has commanded
and by avoiding what He (SWT) has forbidden. Taqwa is the key to
happiness and success in this life and the hereafter too.
How to achieve and develop taqwa by performing fasting?
Acquiring taqwa is a process that takes time, and grows with the
increase of faith in the heart of a believer until they become
convinced that Allah is aware of everything they do and each word
they say.
Fasting gives us experiences of learning how to develop taqwa
in ourselves. The experience of fasting teaches us how to control
ourselves from doing bad things and harmful manners. Fasting
