For low- and moderate- income wage-earners with dependent children, tax time can be a
substantial financial event. Depending on circumstances, a family living at or around the
poverty line can receive tax credits equal to several months of earnings in one lump
sum. However, 2020's widespread unemployment and other economic disruptions likely
changed tax situations dramatically - as they also changed the process of tax return
preparation. In this session, volunteer tax preparation program leader (Walden) and an anti-
poverty researcher (Romich) discuss what the coming tax preparation season might hold for
low- and moderate-income families and organizations who serve such families.
