5 key takeouts
Networking has to be from the heart
Be authentic. Approach networking with an attitude of
genuinely wanting to help others, and you’ll find that
they’ll help you (and your career) in return.
It’s not just about climbing the
corporate ladder
Networking is bigger than business. It has the potential
to put you in contact with interesting and inspirational
people who will help you grow both personally and
professionally.
Your network is likely to get you your
next job
With so many jobs unadvertised, it’s more than likely
that someone in your network will recommend you
for your next role. Having a supportive network is also
important when recruiters ask for a range of referrals.
Prequalify your professional contacts
Social network profile pages contain basic biographical
information that will help you identify common ground
with new connections and decide on who you want to
connect with face-to-face.
Face-to-face still has a place
Nothing will replace face-to-face networking. Social
media, however, will help you lock those meetings in,
and greatly expand the network of people who will
feel they would benefit from
meeting you in person.
