Great managers are fair and consistent, do not shy
away from tough decisions, treat their team members
equally, and recognise achievement.

Celebrate individual improvement

Invest in every team member’s personal development
– not just financially, but invest your time as well.
That time will be handed back to you as your team’s
capability increases.

Be clear about the vision

You may understand the vision of where your team
and the wider business is going, but it’s important to be
able to articulate that vision and inspire your team to
believe in it.

Empowerment is not abdication

Structured delegation involves making yourself
available to support your team as they grow their
capability and take on more responsibilities.

You can’t know everything

Leaders aren’t required to have greater skills
and knowledge than the members of their team.
Leadership is about helping inspire the subject-matter
experts within the team to perform their very best.
