Meteorology
Wind from southeast
True summer arrives only when the
wind comes from the southeast. The
air we get here is heated over the
Eastern European continent.
However, the air contains many
pollutants, both from the Eastern
European plains and industrial areas.
If high pressure is located southeast
of Denmark, it will block low pressure
systems from the west, and we may
have a longer period of good weather. The high pressure will be stationary.
In summary: very warm, dry air – hazy (dry mist), usually cloudless, with
warming possibly hindered by dust in the air, and high temperatures.
Weather forecast
We will have sunny weather with high temperatures between 25 and 30°C,
locally perhaps up to 33°C. The wind will be light to moderate from the
southeast.
3.7.2.2 Winter weather
Wind from the west
Wind from the west also occurs in
winter when low-pressure systems
move from northern Scotland into
North Scandinavia.
This brings damp, moist, and mild
air into Denmark. Advection of
warm air, as it would be called in a
VMC forecast. Since the ground is
usually cool at this time of year, fog and possibly drizzle will form. Temperatures
will be nearly the same day and night.
