Meteorology
Flying weather: Frequent low cloud and fog formation, especially in winter and
spring. Rain and wind can also create turbulence, especially near coastal areas.
Good visibility in clear weather, but often unstable.
Polar climates are characterized by very cold temperatures - all months have
o
an average temperature below 10 C. Summers are short and cool, and winters
are long and cold.
There is little precipitation, which is distributed throughout the year. In the
southern part, the tundra, there are no trees, but only moss and lichen. In the
polar climate, only ice and snow fields are found.
Flying weather: Low temperatures can cause ice formation on aircraft and on
runways. Low temperatures can also affect engine performance. Poor visibility
in winter with dark periods, which makes accurate weather forecasts
important.
The continental climate of the coniferous forest has long, cold winters with an
o
average temperature below –3 C for the coldest month, warm summers with
o
at least 1 month with an average temperature above 10 C.
Precipitation is low to moderate and falls mostly as snow in winter and is very
variable due to frequent low-pressure passages.
Flying weather: Cold and heavy snow in winter can lead to ice formation on
aircraft and runways. Winds can create heavy snowdrifts, which reduce
visibility and can cause turbulence. Low temperatures also mean that flight
operations require special attention to ice and snow conditions.
