3.11.4.2 Cloud symbols
Cloud areas with the indication as for the cloud here
should be interpreted as:
Cloudy to overcast of Stratocumulus or Altocumulus
the top of clouds is between 9000 and 12000 feet.
Base is from 3000 to 5000 feet.
The symbols indicate moderate icing and light to
moderate turbulence.
Here the cloud top height is indicated by XXX.
This means that the top is above the chart height
(FL 150).
Clouds - CB:
- ISOL: Isolated (less than 50% coverage)
- OCNL: Occasional (50-75% coverage)
- FRQ: Frequent (more than 75% coverage)
- EMBD: Embedded
- OBSC: Obscured
Other cloud types:
- SKC: Sky clear
- FEW: Few (1-2/8)
- SCT: Scattered (3-4/8)
- BKN: Broken (5-7/8)
- OVC: Overcast (8/8)
Other abbreviations
- FILL: Filling (low pressure filling/high pressure weakening)
- LYR: Layered
- STNR: Stationary (front)
- ALM STNR: Almost stationary (front)
- MAR: Maritime
- LCA: Local
