Hazardous weather conditions that indicate a risk of icing on the aircraft are
indicated by:
FZ supercooled (ice floe) PL ice grains SG grain snow
Hazardous weather conditions in connection with CB clouds are indicated by:
GR/GS hail SQ wind gust
Intensity of precipitation is indicated by:
+ strong - light moderate
VC nearby (8km)
UP unidentified precipitation in AUTO rep.
8. Cloud conditions. Here it is partly cloudy at 700 feet and cloudy at 900 feet. 4 groups
can be included.
The code consists of three letters, which indicate the amount of cloud, followed by
3 numbers, which indicate the cloud height above the terrain in hundreds of feet.
If the clouds are CB, or TCU, it will be indicated, due to the danger of turbulence,
icing. In AUTO reports, NCD means: no clouds detected.
9. The cloud volume is given as:
i. SKC sky clear
ii. FEW few 1-2/8
iii. SCT scattered 3-4/8
iv. BKN brocken 5-7/8
v. OVC overcast 8/8
If the cloud height cannot be determined due to fog or precipitation, report e.g. vv003,
which means vertical visibility 300 feet (vertical visibility from the ground upwards).
10. Temperature and dew point. Given in two digits, separated by a slash, measured
2 meters above the ground.
11. Station’s QNH (air pressure at sea level), given in hectopascals (hPa).
