Meteorology
TREND is used to give pilots and air traffic control an idea of how the weather
is expected to develop in the short term (2 hours).
The terms in a TREND are shown below:
3.11.5.6 NOSIG, BECMG, TEMPO
NOSIG (No Significant Changes) means no significant weather changes are
expected in the next 2 hours.
BECMG (Becoming) indicates a change is expected, followed by FM (From), TL
(To), or AT (At a specific time).
The sketch shows
a BECMG TL with a
change in visibility
from 4000m to
1000m starting at
0650 UTC.
If temporary changes are expected that are expected to last for the entire
period of the forecast, this is indicated with TEMPO (temporary). A TEMPO
value must have a maximum duration of 1 hour and must be less than half the
time in total.
In this example,
short-term
periods of
reduced visibility
are expected
after 7:00 AM
