6.8 Other points of attention
6.8.1 Refueling
A necessary thing for all of us is to visit the fuel station regularly.
When refueling, connect the ground wire of the refueling system to the ground
of the aircraft. You can then start refueling. This must not be done with the
engine running.
Refuel carefully and remember that the next person to fly in the aircraft may
have heavy passengers who need to fly.
You can remove gasoline via the fuel strainer. About 1 liter comes out per
minute, so it is a slow process.
Remember to install the tank cap correctly after refueling. It does not sound
good when a cap flies around on top of the wing while it is hanging from the
chain. Gasoline can also be sucked out of the tank!
In the picture here you can see 2 of my friends who are in the process of
attaching a tank cap.
They had taken off after refueling
and were heading towards Prague,
but there was “something” knocking
on top of the wing, so they decided
to turn around and investigate what
was wrong.
Remember that you cannot rely on the fuel gauge reading.
You know how much petrol is in the tank when you have filled it up or leveled
it.
